Responsibilities of Foster and Adoptive Families

Foster Parents:

  • Provide daily care, nurturing, and supervision to children in foster care.
  • Advocate for the well-being of children in their schools, extracurricular activities, and communities.
  • Keep children’s caseworkers informed about any adjustments in the home, school, or community, as well as any issues that may arise, including serious illnesses, accidents, or significant events involving the children or their families.
  • Collaborate with caseworkers as part of the team to work toward the reunification of children with their birth families whenever possible.
  • Serve as positive role models for birth families, demonstrating respect and support.
  • Assist children in learning essential life skills that will help them thrive.

Adoptive Parents:

  • Provide a permanent, loving home and a lifelong commitment to children, supporting them into adulthood.
  • Meet both the short-term and long-term needs of the children, ensuring their health and happiness.
  • Address each child’s emotional, mental, physical, social, educational, and cultural needs according to their age and developmental growth.
  • May choose to become certified as a foster family, allowing them to accept children who are not yet legally free for adoption but whose permanency plan is adoption.

We greatly value the dedication of foster and adoptive families in helping children grow into happy, healthy, and successful adults. Your role is integral to their journey.
