Gain the skills needed to provide exceptional care through training.

At Shepherd Kidz Cares, we are committed to providing our foster parents and caregivers with the training and resources they need to offer the best care to children in need. Foster parents are required to complete an orientation and all pre-service training as mandated by our agency, in alignment with DFPS Minimum Standards and DFPS contract requirements.

Once verified by Shepherd Kidz Cares, each foster parent will receive 30 hours of annual training. This training includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Emergency Behavior Intervention prevention and techniques
  • DFPS Psychotropic Medications Course
  • DFPS Trauma-Informed Care Course
  • DFPS Medical Consenter Course

Foster parents and program staff will work closely together to identify any additional areas of training specific to the needs of the children, youth, and families in their care. We strive to provide the necessary resources to meet these training needs, ensuring that our foster parents are well-equipped to address the individual challenges and needs of the children placed in their homes.
